Poozyory

This vibrant series of genre photographs is dedicated to the residents of the Poozyorye region (Novgorod District, Novgorod Oblast), that is, to the people who live on the shores of the beautiful Lake Ilmen. For most of the residents of Poozyorye, their distant ancestors lived here as well. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Poozyorye—in the village of Sergovo. I hold these people dear to my heart. 

My project is a tribute to my homeland and its people. In the past, we had a collective farm, and my parents, my grandmother, and my grandfather worked for the common good, just like many, many others. This brought the community together, united by common problems and cares. We lived harmoniously, like one big family. Now, everyone is missing a shared idea and collective effort. My task is to unite everyone who is still with us in this common project (many people have already “left”). I am driven by a burning sense of nostalgia. And, of course, love.
